Pro Eco Azuero invites you to help expand our efforts to restore stream-side tropical dry forest habitat in Azuero. Last year, through the pandemic we were able to plant more than 5000 trees with 11 local cattle ranchers. Each year the demand from landowners for reforestation partnerships is growing. Riparian reforestation creates habitat for monkeys & other wildlife, connects existing forest, & enhances farm sustainability. Help make our yearly reforestation efforts a success!
Panama's Azuero peninsula forests have reduced to just 7% of their original. Globally, less than 2% of dry forests remain. Forest fragmentations endanger our endemic wildlife through habitat loss & reduces the productivity of local farmland. Climate change already is affecting Azuero's wildlife & communities through intensified & sporadic weather patterns, producing increasingly harsh dry seasons. Increasing tree cover will help local communities mitigate & adapt to these changes.
Your donations fund planting and maintaining of native and fruit trees along streams on farms within the corridor area at $5 a tree. In 2021, we are planning planting 28,000 trees in 25 hectares. We will connect remnant patches of riparian habitat and ensuring long-term farm resiliency. Each planted parcel has 5+ years of monitoring with ARCGIS/chemical-free follow-up & a commitment to replacement planting within the 1st year. Reforesting engaging the communities and farmers ensures a greater im
The goal of this project is to reforest an 80 km long corridor that crosses Los Santos. This will achieve the active participation of community members which will have a profound effect on how citizens observe and feel the positive changes that the reforestation of these ecosystems will bring. Since water scarcity is a concern for the producers, they will have a way to protect their watersheds to strengthen the resilience of their production in a future impacted by climate change.
