This project will strengthen the resilience of rural communities in Southeast Sulawesi in reducing the impact of increasingly frequent natural disasters. Strengthening community awareness and participation in preserving rainforests and mangrove forests is the priority of this project. A total of 20 hectares of rainforest and mangrove forests will be rehabilitated in 10 villages with high disaster vulnerability, with a total of direct and indirect beneficiaries reaching 19,200 people.
In the last decade, natural disasters have become more frequent in Southeast Sulawesi, especially floods, landslides, clean water crises, extreme waves, and abrasion. Rural communities are living in the vulnerability of natural disasters due to the destruction of rainforests and mangrove forests. There have been no forest conservation efforts carried out by the community, either in terms of increasing awareness or forest rehabilitation/replantation.
IDRAP conducts advocacy to raise awareness to communities in 10 villages to be involved in conserving rainforests and mangrove forests. Community training related to community-based forestry. Support for community-based forestry activities. Awareness campaigns to conserve rainforests and mangrove forests.
The project will develop disaster-resilient villages based on the active role of the community in reducing the impact of disasters through rainforest and mangrove planting activities. The increasing area of rehabilitated forests minimizes the risk of disasters such as high waves, abrasion, landslides, floods and clean water crises. The project will conserve 20 ha rainforest and mangrove forests connected to 10 villages with 7,200 direct beneficiaries and around 12,000 indirect beneficiaries.
