150,150 New Trees Planted in North Sumatra

By Kallen Marecic | Partnerships

Between May 20 and June 9, 2026, our team planted 150,150 trees across two sites in North Sumatra: Harapan Maju and Tangkahan.

Planting began at Harapan Maju, running from May 20 to 25, with a total of 97,141 trees planted over six days, averaging more than 16,000 seedlings per day, with a peak of 20,387 trees on May 25. The team then moved to Tangkahan, where planting continued from June 6 to 9 with a total of 53,009 trees. On June 7 alone, 17,057 trees were planted in a single day, the highest count recorded at this site.

Both sites were chosen due to the need to restore forest cover following the floods that hit North Sumatra, as well as their proximity to wildlife corridors in the area. Every tree planted contributes to the long term effort of restoring forest connectivity and reducing the risk of future flooding.

This achievement would not have been possible without the support of our donors, from partners such as SAP, KPMG, The Foot Collective, Electrifi Ventures, Plant for the Planet, and MIH Sunshine, to hundreds of individual donors who contribute through our website each month. Thank you to everyone who supported this work, whether through a large gift or a small one.

We will continue reporting on planting progress in the next period. If you would like to support the next round of planting, please visit the donation link for the Sumatra Flood Emergency: Reforestation Project below.
