From December 2025 to February 2026, our teams in Kentongan, North Sumatra, Indonesia, planted more than 50,000 trees using a diverse mix of species, including native rainforest, fruit-bearing, and medicinal varieties, in response to the devastating flood emergency that struck the region late last year. This large-scale reforestation effort not only contributes to environmental restoration but also plays a critical role in rebuilding livelihoods. The project has created sustainable employment opportunities for local communities, empowering residents with stable income while supporting future income generation through agroforestry and forest products.
In addition, the growing forest will strengthen the region’s natural defenses, helping to reduce the impact of extreme weather events such as flooding, soil erosion, and landslides. By improving soil stability and water absorption, the restored landscape will become more resilient over time. Ongoing care and monitoring will be provided by a dedicated local maintenance team, ensuring the young forest is nurtured and protected until it becomes fully self-sustaining and capable of thriving independently for years to come.
