Dear ChangeMaker:
Let us introduce you our country, Chile: A developing country and a benchmark in Latin America. With the highest GDP per capita in the Region and its status as the only South America member of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development , What is Chilean's challenge if so many things in Chile are going well?
Unfournately, not all that glitters is gold...
The golden image of Chile that people often think of hides an alarming reality. Only a tiny minority of Chileans benefits from this high level of development and this also affect our educational results specially to our vulnerable childrens. This is the " Chile's Inconvenient Truth" that compromises its future. What evidence this hidden crisis?
Well, 92% in Mathematics and 88% in Reading of vulnerable students achieve below their expected grade level. Researches has shown that students with actual grade level at 8th have an achievement level of 1st grade and they spent 1,200 hours a year in the classroom, which is double the average of the OECD in Lectures classes.
What has happened to these students? Well, they had to go to the school with the same classroom as one century ago. How to reach XXI century's Skills (as creativity, adapting to uncertainly and Leadership) if we don't transform the classroom.
With "Tutorial Networks" an innovative educational approach with sustainable, scalable and proven results with significant impact and successful implementation in different parts of the world, we want to change this reality in our vulnerable students. With this approach we are sure that we can change students school life and their future with dynamic , promoting talents and students' enthusiasm classroom with students who are capable or learning on their own because of their interest and who are capable of guiding their peers' learning process.
With your help we will implement this Innovation in one vulnerable school in Araucanía Region (Chile's poorest) as a part of a Institutional Innovative plan until 2018 implementing this methodology in 50 schools as a National pilot program. We want to show the country and new goverment: "Yes, we can and this is the way". We already started with 9 schools with promising results and with a strict evaluation and monitoring.
The school choosed will be one with a high Vulnerability Index, low learning results, in complex context and engaged with two year of the total implementation. We invite you to create a commitment to chilean talent being sponsor of this school and getting the opportunity to create a relationship with the school.
Doing this we will promote a real change in Chile improving our children's and grandchildren's future.
