The torrential rain from 12-15 Aug 2017 created massive floods and several landslides in 26 districts throughout the country. As per govt data, the flood caused 126 deaths, 50 missing and many people got severe injuries. Due to rain 12733 households displaced losing their property in west Nepal & they are in critical state. They are immensely in need of relief supports like food grains, temporary shelter, blankets, potable water, clothing, medicines, education materials of children.
More than 12733 people are affected and displaced by flood. The displaced households are currently staying in temporary shelter in roadside camps, public buildings and host families. People living in temporary shelters, women, children and people with chronic and severe illnesses, are vulnerable as they are more exposed to unsafe conditions (e.g, poor toilets and safe drinking water, protection issues). They are in scattered. Due to damaged roads, it is hard to supply materials.
The proposed project will address the problems of safe drinking water, sanitation, material support for children education and housing for resettlement of affected families. They will be oriented on preparedness, sanitation and hygiene. They will also be sensitized about the safe houses.
The project will build the capacity of community to cope with natural disasters including flood. It improves their livelihoods and health. An organized networks will be built to response the disasters. The community people will change crop pattern which will minimize the destruction of crops and increase the productivity.
