This project supports a retiring receptionist from Paterson to launch a small business. Known for her exceptional vetkoek and passion for people, she aims to create sustainable income for herself and employment for another community member.
In rural communities like Paterson, retirement often means financial insecurity and limited employment opportunities. Women over 50 face even greater barriers to starting businesses due to lack of capital and access to formal funding. Without support, skills, experience, and community trust cannot easily translate into sustainable income.
We will raise funds to purchase and equip a small, compliant food trailer, enabling her to formally operate a vetkoek business. The project includes licensing, food safety compliance, and initial stock. Once established, the business will create stable income and employ at least one additional community member.
This project transforms retirement into entrepreneurship. The food truck will become a sustainable micro-enterprise generating ongoing income without continued donor dependence. Over time, profits will support expansion into vegetable production, improve local food access, and create further employment opportunities in the community.
