With support from You and GlobalGiving , we successfully launched third phase of Rebuilding Children's Live after the Chennai Flood by providing Life Skills & Disaster Mitigation Workshops for children of Vyasarpadi Slums in Chennai, India during October 2016. The first workshop saw 40 children actively participated learning about disasters, science behing disaster management and were engaged in activiteis designed for acquiring skills required for handling the situation intelligently at the time of crisis.
120 more children will be participating in similar workshops during the summer vacation in Vyasarpadi, Chennai. The workshops are scheduled for, during the months of April - May 2017. Three workshops will be attended by 40 children each.
The 2nd workshop will be covering 40 children between the age group of 10-14 years of age while the next two will be for 40 children per workshop between 15-18 years of age.
We will be bringing more updates on the workshop in June on the experiences of children and their feed back.
Attached is a feedback from a child who attended the first workshop that was conducted on 11th and 12th of December 2016.
Thanks to your support, CRY has worked in the flood relief and rescue operations in 2015 - 2016 in the Vyasarpadi slum area. And now following the aims of the project in phase 3. Aim was to empower the children of Vyasarpadi through critical life skills concepts towards a free and emancipated childhood even in the most difficult of situations. To build awareness among the critical stakeholders like parents and community on preventive measures to ensure child safety, protection and emotional as well as physical health in disaster.
