By Klay Nachelle | Founder & Executive Director

01 Executive Summary

Because of supporters like you, children at the Yaw Owusukrom public school are one step closer to learning in safe, dry, and durable classrooms. This report shares what your generosity has already achieved, the difference it is making now, and what lies ahead as we work to rebuild every classroom in the school.

Since this project launched on GlobalGiving, we have engaged the local community, completed a full site assessment, and begun procuring the materials needed to start rebuilding. Every gift, of any size, moves these children closer to classrooms worthy of their potential.

02 The Challenge We Are Addressing

Right now, the classrooms at Yaw Owusukrom's public school are failing the children who depend on them. Walls are cracked, roofs leak or have failed outright, ventilation is poor, and there are not nearly enough desks to go around. For months each year, the rainy season turns lessons into a losing battle against water pouring through damaged roofing, and children are sent home instead of staying in class.

Inside, pupils crowd onto bare floors or squeeze two or three to a desk built for one. Teachers do their best in conditions that make real instruction nearly impossible. Parents are watching this decline knowing exactly what is at stake — their children's education, and everything that follows from it.

This cannot wait — and thanks to you, it does not have to.

03 Our Solution

Bridgeway Foundation's response is direct: rebuild these classrooms from the foundation up, so they are structurally sound, comfortable, and built to last. The work includes:

  • Reinforcing and repairing foundations, load-bearing walls, and the superstructure
  • Installing new weather-proof roofing sheets, ridge caps, and fasteners to eliminate leaks for good
  • Fitting secure doors and windows that protect against the weather and improve safety
  • Plastering, flooring, and painting every surface for clean, durable interiors
  • Improving natural ventilation so classrooms stay cool and air stays fresh
  • Supplying locally made desks and bench sets so every child has a proper place to sit and learn

When this work is complete, Yaw Owusukrom will have classrooms that withstand the weather and support real teaching and learning every day of the school year.

04 Progress Update

What We Have Done So Far

Since the project launched on GlobalGiving, our team has:

  • Completed a full site assessment and structural survey to identify priority repairs
  • Brought parents, teachers, and traditional leaders into project planning from day one
  • Begun sourcing local building materials — cement, blocks, roofing sheets, and timber
  • Put a project management framework in place, with dedicated site supervisors and a procurement schedule tied to funds raised

What Is Next

As fundraising builds momentum, here is how the rebuild will unfold:

  • Phase 1 — Foundation & Walling: Repair and reinforce every cracked or unstable wall and foundation
  • Phase 2 — Roofing: Replace damaged roofing across all classrooms
  • Phase 3 — Doors, Windows & Finishing: Install new fittings, then plaster, floor, and paint
  • Phase 4 — Furnishing: Deliver and install pupil desks, teacher tables, and chairs

05 Impact: What Your Donation Is Achieving

Your support is already changing what is possible for these children. Every gift to this project is:

  • Protecting the physical safety of children and teachers alike
  • Keeping lessons running all year, rain or shine
  • Cutting absenteeism driven by unsafe, uncomfortable classrooms
  • Giving teachers the conditions they need to teach well
  • Strengthening the community's confidence in its school
  • Laying the groundwork for better learning outcomes, higher completion rates, and stronger futures

A rebuilt school does more than fix a building — it helps break a cycle. Every child who completes their education here gains real skills and goes on to new opportunities, extending that impact for decades to come.
