A Story of Struggle and Strength: The Family of a Deaf Father and Mother
In the bustling city of Lahore, amidst the many challenges that come with being Deaf, there’s a family whose struggles have been magnified beyond measure. Sara, a Deaf mother, and her husband, Ahmed, also Deaf, have been facing life’s toughest trials. As if their communication barriers weren’t enough, Ahmed’s world darkened further when he lost his eyesight completely. Now, he faces life not only without the ability to hear but also without the ability to see.
Sara, while still able to care for their family, remains at home, looking after her husband and their young son, Imran, who is just 10 years old. Imran, the only hearing member of the family, has stepped into a role far beyond his years. Despite his age, he works tirelessly at a binding shop, earning a meager 500 PKR per day — barely enough to cover the household’s rent and their daily expenses.
Every day, Imran carries the weight of his family’s survival on his small shoulders. He is their only hope, their only provider. His parents, though loving and caring, cannot help him in this battle for sustenance. The family’s struggles are compounded by their rented house, where they live hand-to-mouth, always in fear of not being able to meet their basic needs. Yet, despite the hardships, Imran shows resilience and determination — a boy forced to grow up too fast, just to keep his family afloat.
When the Ramzan Iftar & Rashan Distribution project by Deaf Welfare Awareness Foundation (DWAF) arrived, it was nothing short of a miracle for this family. DWAF's efforts to bring relief during Ramzan were life-changing for them. With the distribution of essential food packages and support for Eid gifts and clothing, Sara and Ahmed were filled with immense gratitude.
For the first time in a long while, they felt a glimmer of hope. The food provided by DWAF meant that Imran didn’t have to choose between paying for food or paying rent. The Eid gifts and clothing, a simple yet meaningful gesture, brought smiles to the faces of the family — something they hadn’t experienced in a long time.
Sara expressed, "I feel like we are seen. We are not invisible. DWAF’s support means so much to us. It’s not just the food; it’s the love and care that come with it."
The Impact of Your Support:
DWAF’s support didn’t just provide food for this family. It provided hope, dignity, and a sense of community. It reminded Sara, Ahmed, and little Imran that they are not alone in their struggles. Despite being a family facing immense challenges, they now have a chance to experience the joy of Ramzan and Eid.
This family is one of thousands who benefit from the generosity of donors like you. Your contribution to DWAF’s projects ensures that families like Imran’s have access to the support they desperately need. Together, we are not only helping to meet their immediate needs but also sending a message of care and solidarity that they are part of a larger, compassionate community.
We are deeply grateful for your continued support. It is only through your generosity that we can continue to reach families like Sara’s and make a lasting impact in their lives.
