Raising Refugees' living standards - Report 8

Tushirikiane (TUSA)- Community-based Organization is still going on with all its activities and is now focusing on projects aimed at sustainability, the category of assistance under which this project "Raising refugees'living standards falls. This is the kind of projects aimed at making members self-reliant in the long run and helping them be able to be self-sufficient financially through income-generating activities.

It is in this context that it has given another three (3) women members loans to start income-generating projects under this project. The focus on women is driven by the belief that when women are financially stable and able, the whole family is as they are the ones who are mostly managing the daily welfare of the family. These women have expressed their interest and desire to engage in income-generating activities by selling the African cloth commonly called "vitenge" so that they can be able to take care of their families. Tushirikiane helped each of them with a loan of Ksh 10, 000 (about 90 USD), which they will pay in 10 installments for the funds to be given to another member.

As a reminder, these 3 women join the group of other three members whose projects were also funded under this project, which means that the number of members running businesses under this project is now 6. We hope it will keep on increasing as we will be receiving more funds since the project is still active on GlobalGiving Platform and receiving donations. The number will also increase as the funds already given out will be repaid and start revolving (being given to more members).

As the donations stand by now, Tushirikiane has been able to raise 1596 USD, which was topped up with an amount of 190 USD driven by GlobalGiving and 29 USD received as additional grants and funds. The total received so far is 1815 USD, out of which 1324.54 has been disturbed and has been used to fund the 6 projects mentioned above, for with an amount of Ksh 145,000. We hope and believe the project will continue to grow and contribute to Tushirikiane's objective of making its members self-reliant through income-generating activities. Together, we can make it.
