Tushirikiane )YUSA)- Community-based Organization is still going on with its activities of helping refugees from the Great Lakes region (Burundi, DR Congo and Rwanda living in Nairobi) settle in the host community and cope with life, through its main activities of education, socio-pastoral and peacebuilding activities and income-generating activities. It was in the context of income-generating activities which aim at helping refugees become self-reliant that the project "Raising Refugees' Living Standards" was developed and launched in collaboration with GlobalGiving which helped raise the funds.
Under the project ,Tushirikiane has managed to fund three projects as mentioned in previous reports and the three projects are still running, despite the setbacks due to Covid-19 but they have all survived the pandemic.
As a reminder, the three funded projects are involved in the following businesses: bakery, tailoring and selling clothes. These were funded with a total of USD1,034 (Ksh 115,000) out of USD 1324.54 disbursed. Tushirikiane is still keeping USD 290 (Ksh 32.280). This enough for funding another project but we are still waiting for the environment to be safe enough to fund it.
Our project is still receiving donations and those received so far amount now to USD 1,741. It is also worth noting that this is a long-term project which will keep on being funded as funds are available. Income-generating activity projects are also being encouraged because they are the ones which help people become autonomous and self-reliant. Tushirikiane is also encouraging its members to focus on this kind of projects which help them not depend on donors for the satisfaction of their basic needs.
We, once again, thank each and everyone who has contributed to this project and call upon many other wellwishers to support this project by donating through GlobalGiving.
