The Armenian Environmental Network (AEN) will produce and disseminate Public Service Announcements (PSAs)/advertisements that will introduce sustainable waste management practices, encouraging Armenians to be conscious consumers by reducing, reusing and recycling to minimize their "eco-footprint". The PSAs will empower Armenians to become the solution to the waste problem.
Armenians are generally unaware of the environmental and health hazards associated with poor waste management. Currently, no nationwide program exists to separate waste for environmentally appropriate disposal. Many people dump their waste along nearby rivers, streams, gorges and roadsides, or burn the waste, releasing toxic fumes into the air, creating serious acute and chronic threats to public health that disproportionately impact socioeconomically disadvantaged communities.
We will produce and disseminate PSAs on Armenian television and the internet. The PSAs will increase public understanding of the dangerous impacts of poor waste management and littering on human health, wildlife and the environment and empower consumers with knowledge to reduce their impact and become a part of the solution.
The project will reach thousands of Armenians through a series of PSAs shown on television and the internet indefinitely, which will empower Armenians with the knowledge to make responsible personal choices about how they create and dispose of their own waste. In the long-term, this will lead to a more environmentally conscious society that feels a greater sense of responsibility to maintain a clean community.
