This project focuses on a young struggling pig farmer in Southern Nigeria who despite all odds of family neglect decided to start a pig farm on borrowed Piece of Land. It aims at assisting him to secure adequate land for farm expansion, introduce him to experts who will educate him on new and improved stock management practices and ensure that he assist in raising interested Pig farmers with the assistance he has received.
Pork meat is the most widely consumed meat in the world, as it accounts for over 36 percent of the world's meat consumption. In Nigeria, its production and supply have not been able to satisfy the growing demands due to wrong beliefs on Pork production; poor breeding knowledge and management practice, lack of Support for willing farmers, lack of funds for farm expansion and running cost. As a result young entrepreneurs are discouraged to invest in pork production.
This project will encourage more young entrepreneurs to embrace Pig farming since this young pig farmer would be made to assist the foundation in training other interested farmers. This will increase pork production and boost the economy.
This project would have a ripple effect on the Society, the Young Farmer and on would-be farmers in the long run. It would increase Pork production, which in turn increases competition among pork meat producers and enhance the economy. Also, it will also contribute to societal development through pork production in commercial quantities; as such, it will create job opportunities for other youths thereby reducing the rate of joblessness among youths in southern Nigeria.
