Raise-A-Child – Three-Month Impact Report
Over the past three months, funds raised through the Raise-A-Child initiative have supported the holistic development and wellbeing of young children aged 3–6 years living in Alexandra Township.
A key focus during this period has been the development of a dedicated Occupational Therapy Room to support children experiencing delays in reaching age-appropriate gross and fine motor milestones. The space provides targeted therapeutic support, helping children develop essential movement, coordination, balance and fine motor skills in a safe and child-friendly environment.
One example of the impact of this intervention is Iminathi and Luminathi, six-year-old twins participating in the programme. At the end of Grade RR, Luminathi was noticeably smaller than her sister and experienced significant difficulty with fine motor skills. She was unable to hold a pen, which presented a barrier to her classroom participation and readiness for formal schooling.
Through the therapeutic interventions and additional support provided through the programme, Luminathi has made encouraging progress. She has begun to catch up with her sister and is developing the fine motor skills and confidence needed to participate more fully in the classroom. This support is helping her on her journey towards being school ready by the end of the year.
In addition to developmental support, increased attention has been placed on improving the nutritional wellbeing of the children. Funds have contributed towards providing super-fortified meals during the school day, helping to address nutritional gaps and compensate, where possible, for meals that children may miss at home. Good nutrition provides an important foundation for concentration, physical development, learning and overall wellbeing.
Together, these interventions form part of a holistic approach to supporting vulnerable young children—not only addressing their immediate nutritional needs, but also investing in their physical development, learning potential and long-term wellbeing.
The continued support of Raise-A-Child donors is making a meaningful difference, helping ensure that children receive the nourishment, developmental support and opportunities they need during these critical early years.
