Our project aims to continuously improve the collaboration of local communities in improving water sanitation and management. We are able to do this thanks to your fantastic support.
Since this project began we have increased the overall water storage capacity in many villages across several districts in Fiji, For example in the District of Dawasamu we have installed more than a dozen rainwater harvesting systems.
We compare the village population to the existing availability of water and capacity for storing water. We then use that data to calculate the capacity deficits. Once a rainwater system is installed we educate about sanitation and hygiene practices
This project would not be effective without ensuring people are educated on the whys and hows of the project. They also need to feel ownership oft the project and this is where collaboration is so important.
We have developed educational resources which we distribute once the tank is installed. The goal is to ensure community members understand the importance of maintenance and treatments of the tanks. If tanks are well looked after they will continue to be a safe water resource for many years to come benefiting the whole community. The resources have been created to ensure community members can clearly understand the information.
Water is a precious resource and harvesting water benefits communities.
Your support can help us to increase the number of rainwater tanks installed and ensure maintainace on the ones already in operation. It will benefit a range of communities and community members.
We look forward to updating you on our progress and thank you for your contributions.
