Project Report: Juba & Environs Rain Catchers – Health from Above
Location: Juba and Surrounding Areas
Implementing Partner: South Sudan Grassroots Initiative for Development (SSGID)
Laying the Groundwork for Clean Water Solutions
Access to clean water remains a critical challenge for many households in Juba and its surrounding areas. The “Rain Catchers: Health from Above” project seeks to provide safe, sustainable water through rainwater harvesting systems that improve household health, reduce waterborne diseases, and ease the burden on women and children who often travel long distances to fetch water.
Activities and Progress
Although SSGID has not yet secured funding for this project during this reporting quarter, we have made significant progress in preparing the ground for implementation. Using the Grounded Accountability Model (GAM) approach, SSGID has mobilized local communities, facilitated discussions to identify existing water challenges, and worked with residents to co-create indicators and practical solutions. This participatory process ensures that when the project is funded, it will respond directly to the community’s needs and have local ownership from day one.
Call for Support
SSGID continues to appeal for individual donations and support for this critical initiative. Every contribution will bring us closer to installing rain catchment systems, training households on water management, and improving the health and well-being of families across Juba and its environs.
