Project Update: Juba & Environs Rain Catchers
Organization: SSGID (South Sudan Grassroots Initiative for Development)
Turning Rain into Resilience
In the communities surrounding Juba, the arrival of the rainy season used to be a bittersweet moment. While the water was desperately needed, it often washed away topsoil or went to waste because families had no way to capture it. Today, because of your commitment, these communities are transforming every downpour into a sustainable lifeline.
From Scarcity to Security
For years, the neighborhoods in the Juba Environs faced a grueling reality: when the rains stopped, the long, arduous trek to distant water points began. This daily struggle took children out of classrooms and parents away from their livelihoods.
Since the installation of the Juba & Environs Rain Catchers systems, the atmosphere in these communities has shifted.
"We no longer watch the water run down the dusty roads and disappear," explains a local community leader. "Now, we watch our tanks fill up. It has brought peace of mind to every household in this area. Our children are healthier, and our mothers are no longer exhausted by the weight of water jerrycans."
The Impact of Your Support
Your contributions have allowed SSGID to turn a vision of water security into a reality. To date, this project has:
The Path Ahead: Join Us in Scaling Up
We are proud to share that the fundraising campaign from this past year was a resounding success, providing the essential capital to launch this phase of the project. However, the demand for these systems continues to grow as neighboring villages see the transformation taking place.
SSGID is still actively appealing to individual donors, well-wishers, and partners. To reach the hundreds of families still waiting for a solution, we need your continued advocacy and support. While we have secured a strong foundation, additional funding will allow us to bring "Rain Catchers" to five more high-need communities before the next major dry season.
Your support doesn't just buy tanks and pipes; it invests in the health, education, and future of every person in the Juba Environs.
Will you help us reach the next community?
Thank you for standing with the people of South Sudan and ensuring no drop of hope goes to waste.
