The students part of this program come from an economically poor background and are forced to work during the day in order to support their families. They attend night school in order to obtain their education. Masoom is supporting beneficiaries through Material Distribution Drive - a provision of extra classes and study materials to prepare for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams to enable them to complete their basic schooling with good grades that can help them in building a good future.
Students between the ages of 15 -25 years old are part of the beneficiaries who are in the night school program because they have to work during the day to support their families. They are often first-generation students and are often mistreated in the local community because they are day school drop-outs and susceptible alcohol and drug addiction amongst other problems.
SSC Extra Classes - Masoom conducts extra classes through external subject experts on Sundays and holidays for these students as they get less time to study due to working during the day. Learning Material - Masoom provides "21 set, Quick Fixes, Exam Material" to the students in order to reinforce their learning which also reduces their financial burden. Practice Exams - Masoom makes sure that enough Practice Exams are conducted with the students to help them gain confidence for the final exam.
Masoom has seen visible improvement on parameters that are used to track the performance of our intervention: increased enrollment, reduction in dropout rates, improved pass rates in SSC examinations, and ultimately a larger number of our students wanting to pursue courses on vocational skills. Masoom has impacted more than 4500 beneficiaries over the last eight years. SSC pass percentage has grown from 36% (2008-09) to 66.08% (2017-18). Out of total students, 95% are continuing their studies.
