Dear Friends,
It is my pleasure to share our first report via Global Giving on the progress of our project to provide quality education to 300 children in Kishanganj district of Bihar.
Azad India Foundation is running learning centers in the selected villages of the district of Kishanganj, with 10 teachers and 350 children enrolled under Primary Education program. Most of the children are in the age-group 6-14 years. The teachers with regular capacity building trainings have become competent in teaching children. All the teachers are from the community as they understand the needs of the children better and take special care while teaching.Community members especially parents are happy and appreciate the fact that their children are learning. They support the centers in different ways like building and repairing the shed where classes take place.
We follow the state government syllabus up to class V at the learning centers as it will help children join the mainstream education. The methodology of teaching and learning is different from normal regular schools keeping in mind the need of the children of this area. Learning centers also impart gender sensitive education to girls. Also above 14 years girls who dropped out from schools due to various reasons are encouraged to rejoin the education at the learning centers at their own pace.
Our children especially girls have shown tremendous improvement in their learning levels. Azad India Foundation conducts monthly tests for the children through different means such as oral, board work, worksheets and games etc. and competencies are marked accordingly. Most of our children are in Level II, III and IV. To enhance the learning skills of the children Azad India Foundation has given small libraries at some of the centers with the books sourced from Pratham according to the children’s reading levels. Many activities are conducted to develop reading and writing skills of the children.
We are grateful to all our donors for their generous contributions. Do contribute to help us bring more disadvantaged children into the education program and please spread the word.
