Progress Report - St Michael's Primary School

By Olayinka Oyenekan | Development & Partnerships Coordinator

The project involves the construction of a new school building at St. Michael’s Primary School, Ogunpa, Abeokuta. The facility is designed to enhance learning conditions for pupils in the community and comprises:

- Three classrooms with attached stores
- A teacher’s office and a small library
- A detached toilet block with a connecting walkway
- Septic tank and soakaway system
Progress Summary (As at Last Report)
At the time of the previous report, the following works had been successfully completed:
- Site preparation and excavation
- Foundation construction and damp-proofing
- Structural columns and block walls raised to window level
- Installation of lintels and roofing beam formwork
- Blockwork raised to roof beam height
- Completion of roof beams casting
- Completion of septic tank and soak away slab casting.
Current Status
There has been no progress beyond the stage reported above. The project remains at the roof carcass installation stage.
Challenges / Setbacks
Progress on site has been temporarily stalled due to delays in the procurement of planks required for the roofing carcass and roofing sheets. This challenge has directly affected our ability to proceed with the roofing activities.
Revised Next Steps (Upon Resolution of Delay)
Once the planks and roofing sheets are delivered and roofing activities are completed, the following activities will proceed:
- Internal and external plastering
- Installation of doors, windows, and fittings
- Final finishes and site cleanup
Conclusion
While the project has experienced an unavoidable setback due to material transportation challenges, the completed structural works remain intact and ready for the next phase. Necessary steps are being taken to address the delay and return the project to schedule as soon as possible.
