The courts have just returned from the annual legal vacation, which started at the end of July and ended in the first week of October. During the vacation period, HelpLaw was involved in educational campaign on radio and TV, and visits to the prisons to help unfortunate underprivileged prisoners. In the legal year, HelpLaw Ghana was able to mobilize a few lawyers to render services to its clients, and over 200 indigent accused persons received various legal assistance in bail application, trials, and appeals.
Presently, HelpLaw is expecting a grant from OSIWA. If it comes, 2 permanent laywers and 5 temporary ones may be engaged to help us to expand our activities. Two interns and two administrative staff may also be engaged. As a result of effective public awareness that has been created over the period by appearance on radio and TV by the Executive Director, many more are requesting for our services than we have the resources and personnel to cater for.
We are hopeful that OSIWA shall approve our application for grant and our supporters through Globalgiving shall continue to keep faith with us as we thrive to give greater access to justice to the vulnerable, the poor, and less-privileged people in Ghana.
