PROVIDING SHELTERS TO 100 WIDOWS IN BUGANDA

                                    Giving Hope to a wounded Community

During the ethnic war that lasted 15 years in Burundi, resulting the killing of a half million people, including men, women, children and old people and destruction of 60% around of houses in the whole country, left homeless the survivors of the war. Building shelters for widows and needy families, survivors of the war in the Buganda Commune, it helps reduce the expansion of HIV- AIDS and the mortality occasioned by the present conditions of their living.

As you can see from the pictures, 3 houses for 3 widow families have been roofed, but to complete the construction of these 3 houses, we still need around $650 to purchase 6 doors, 12 windows and 9 boxes of cement to stucco them.  With the  help of JRMD home building team, 75 of 100 widow and orphan families have already made enough bricks to build their houses  and 52 of the 100 homes to be built there are at the stage of roofing. These 3 widow families are now living in those uncompleted homes. One widow  is also trying to care for her father, as you can see from the pictures.

As soon, as funds to purchase construction materials are raised, with the help of JRMD home building team, the work of roofing houses already built at the stage of roofing will begin.

I am very thankful to our donors and friends, and friends of friends who are making their donations to help JRMD continue provide shelter to the widow and orphan families in Burundi. If one person was to try do this work alone, it would be impossible. This is only possible by joining hands together to build a society and the world we want that each one of us is longing to belong to and live in.

                                  Buganda home building project Report

There is NO way to promote peace, reconciliation, education, development, safety, health in and among the families who do not have shelter/home. A home is one of the most important things which contribute to the good living of a human being; that’s why at JRMD, building homes for the survivors of the war in Burundi and needy families, is one of the strategies to promote and achieve peace in a wounded  nation and community by ethnic war and poverty.

The house that we build for a family,  has 45 square meters (485 square feet). This house can/does accommodate a family of 7 to 10 people. It has 2 doors, 4 windows, a sitting room and 2 bedrooms.  We stucco/plaster the house with cement, to protect the house from rainwater. To build one home it costs $998.

As you can see from the pictures, with the  help of JRMD home building team, 68 of 100 families made by  widows and needy families in Buganda village, have already made enough bricks to build a house  and 45 of the 100 homes to be built there are at the stage of roofing.

As soon, as funds to purchase construction materials are raised, with the help of JRMD home building team, the work of roofing houses already built at the stage of roofing will start.  Until this time I am writing this report, only $10  has been donate for this project,  within a period of 3 month the project has been posted.

With Gifts for Good Campaign that will run November 20 – December 31, 2013 - Year-End  Campaign starting December 1^st - December 31^st, 2913, when  GlobalGiving will be offering NINE bonus awards to the projects that raise the most money from their supporters in GlobalGiving’s first-ever Year-End Campaign and Recurring Donation Match - During the last 12 days of the year, when GlobalGiving will be offering a one-time 100% match on all new recurring donations up to $200 per donor,  December 20 - December 31, 2013, we hope to raise enough money to finish the construction of 100 houses  to be built for 100 widow and needy families, in Buganda village.
