Feeding Pets of the Homeless is struggling to provide pet food to food banks, church pantries, and soup kitchens.
Many of our Donation Sites closed due to the pandemic and were not able to reopen. Those left are not getting donations from their clients or the community due to COVID, job loss, inflation, etc. Food banks that relied on the help of Donation Sites to provide pet food for their low income and homeless clients have almost completely stopped in many areas around the country.
Did you know that over 42 million Americans received Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) also known as food stamps, benefits in 2021? Many people experiencing homelessness do not know how or where to apply for SNAP and even if they were able to get these benefits SNAP clients cannot use their card for pet food.
At Feeding Pets of the Homeless, we are stepping up to fulfill the need by shipping pet food to those food banks, church pantries, and soup kitchens. Since 2020, the start of COVID, each month we have seen a decrease in donations of pet food and have had to purchase over 10,000 pounds. Donating through GlobalGiving will allow us to fill the need. We will purchase and ship pet food to many of the 450 plus organizations that distribute pet food to those in need across the country.
