Strengthening PLWHIV Associations in the Far North

Summary

EFA Cameroon, with nearly two decades of dedicated support from GlobalGiving, has been committed to improving the lives of 20,000 young Cameroonians affected or infected by HIV/AIDS. In line with this mission, on March 5, 2026, EFA Cameroon convened a strategic meeting with associations it helped establish to reinforce their capacity and impact.

Activity

The session which brought together representatives from AJEPS, ASSIYSGOD, ABEPSA, and AJEPS Mokolo focused on reviving activities, setting the frequency of meetings, and planning general assemblies for each association.

Key Outcomes

AJEPS: Scheduled its General Assembly for March 14, 2026, to develop a 2026 action plan.
ASSIYSGOD: Will hold its General Assembly by March 13, 2026, to finalize its action plan.
ABEPSA: Plans its General Assembly on March 12, 2026, accompanied by a 2026 action plan.
AJEPS Mokolo: Will meet on March 11, 2026, to determine the date of its General Assembly.

Challenges Identified

Membership decline due to deaths and resignations.
Lack of meeting venues for some associations.

Solutions Proposed

Technical Support: EFA Cameroon committed to assisting in reconstituting groups and proposing venues for meetings.
Membership Renewal: Each association will organize sensitization campaigns to recruit new members.
Ongoing Support: EFA reassured associations of its continued accompaniment in their activities with the continuous support of GlobalGiving.

Success Story

“As a founding member of ASSIYSGOD, I overcame stigma and built new skills that earned me a place at the district hospital. Today, I use that position to support others facing the same challenges, turning my journey into a source of hope and empowerment.” Mairamou

Impact

This activity demonstrates EFA Cameroon’s practical role in strengthening grassroots associations. By addressing challenges and offering practical solutions, these groups shall remain active and impactful in their communities. Proposed actions will ensure community sustainability and resilience.

Future Activities

Successful execution of General Assemblies in March 2026.
Development and implementation of action plans for each association.
Monitoring of membership recruitment campaigns.

Conclusion

The meeting was a reaffirmation EFA Cameroon’s mission to empower local associations of People Living With HIV/AIDS, ensuring they have the structures, support, and strategies needed to succeed in contributing to HIV/AIDS prevention. 85 dreams are still thriving in classrooms

Introduction

Thanks to your generous support through GlobalGiving, Education Fights AIDS (EFA) Cameroon continues to bring hope to vulnerable children and families affected by armed conflict, natural disasters, and HIV/AIDS. Your donations make it possible for us to expand access to education for orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs), strengthen community-based HIV prevention and care, and build resilience through youth-centered initiatives.

Every gift you make is changing lives—helping children stay in school, protecting them from the risks of poverty, and giving them the chance to dream of a brighter future.

Activities Carried Out

This quarter, we focused on ensuring that children most at risk could continue their education despite the challenges they face.

School Supplies Distribution to children of members/members of EFA Cameroon’s network of PLWHAIDS (Maroua - ABEPSA and AJEPSMO, Mokolo - AJEPSMO, Godola - ASSYSGOD, and surrounding communities): We provided essential school materials to 31 OVCs.
Tuition Support: Nine children received direct financial assistance to cover school fees.
Community Engagement: Through local associations, we reached both boys and girls equally, reinforcing our commitment to inclusive education. Additional Distribution in Mayo-Danay Division: We successfully delivered school supplies to 54 highly vulnerable children ( 36 girls and 18 boys)-26 in middle school and 27 in primary school in Vele, Doumaraye and Kai-Kai. These children’s living conditions had worsened due to recurrent flooding, but thanks to your support, they are now equipped to continue their studies despite these hardships.
Combined Impact Summary

Across all activities this quarter:
- 85 children supported in total ( 51 girls and 34 boys )
Testimony

One of the beneficiaries, Amina, a 12-year-old girl, shared:

“I was worried I would have to stop going to school because my parents could not afford my books. When I received my supplies, I felt so happy. Now I can continue learning and hope to become a nurse one day.”

Stories like Amina’s remind us that your generosity is not just providing materials—it is nurturing dreams and building futures.

Conclusion

EFA Cameroon extends heartfelt gratitude to GlobalGiving donors for continually trusting us to reach out to the most vulnerable. A special appreciation goes to Mrs. Caitlin, whose exceptional generosity has maximized the impact of this year’s assistance.

Together, we are not only fighting HIV/AIDS but also giving children the tools to build a better tomorrow.

Next Steps

HIV/AIDS Awareness: We plan to integrate more peer-led education sessions in schools and communities to reduce stigma and promote prevention.

Community-Led Immune Wellness

Training of CHMs in Serawa

Brief Summary

EFA Cameroon is committed to improving the living conditions of vulnerable populations throughout Cameroon, with active interventions in various domains including health—especially through efforts in HIV/AIDS prevention.

Activity

Thanks to GlobalGiving’s generous support, EFA Cameroon conducted a transformative training program for 28 Community Health Mobilizers (15 men and 13 women) in the Mokio and Serawa localities of Tokombere in the Mayo-Sava subdivision, Far North Region. This initiative integrated HIV/AIDS sensitization into the nutrition-focused activities of the PULCCA 2025 project, co-implemented with the World Food Programme (WFP).

The mobilizers were trained to educate their communities on:

Prevention and management of HIV and opportunistic infections
The essential link between nutrition and immune health
Encouraging individuals to get tested.

This training is expected to reach over 900 households (approximately 4,500–5,000 individuals) over the next five months. Activities will include life-saving awareness sessions and culinary demonstrations using local agricultural produce—particularly in areas affected by food insecurity and limited healthcare access.

Impact Story

Asta, one of the newly trained mobilizers, shared:

“Before this training, I didn’t know how nutrition could protect against disease. Now I am equipped to help my community make better food choices/usage and understand HIV risks. Thank you EFA Cameroon and GlobalGiving for this opportunity.”

Long-Term Impact
