By Parfaite Ntahuba | Project Leader

Maternity Ward Building. Ntaseka Clinic’s Maternity Ward supplies baby delivery services and care needed for pregnant women, new mothers and newborn babies.  In the month of June, two female babies were born at Ntaseka clinic.

Improving Women’s Reproductive Health (IWRH).  FWA staff and FWA community health workers have continued to educate both men and women on the importance of family planning.

On July 28, 2026 and August 7, 2026, 800 young people where educated on sexual transmitted infections at Centre Jeunes Kamenge.

Among the 800 young participants:

  • 32 young people requested a medical consultation for concerns related to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and were seen in confidential consultation at the Ntaseka Health Center (CDS) for clinical evaluation and treatment in accordance with national protocols.
  • 12 young men expressed their desire to undergo voluntary medical circumcision. They received comprehensive information on the procedure, its benefits, limitations, and post-operative care, and were referred to the appropriate services at the Ntaseka Health Center.
  • 10 young people asked specific questions about mental health, temperament, STIs, stress management, and behaviors that promote good health. These discussions addressed their concerns and dispelled some misconceptions.

Overall, the young people demonstrated a strong interest in age-appropriate health services and actively participated in the discussions.

Stories

  1. Understanding STIs to Better Protect Yourself

“Before participating in FWA sessions, I thought sexually transmitted infections only affected certain people. Now, I know the modes of transmission, the means of prevention, and I know it’s important to consult a doctor quickly if I experience symptoms. I now feel empowered to raise awareness among my friends.”Vital, 19

  1. Breaking the Silence Around Mental Health

“The discussions about mental health helped me a lot. I understood that stress, anxiety, and emotional difficulties can affect anyone and that you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help. The advice I received helped me regain my self-confidence.” Liesse, 18

  1. A Better Understanding of Medically Assisted Voluntary Circumcision

“The explanations given by the healthcare professionals addressed all my concerns about medically assisted circumcision.” I understand its advantages, its limitations, and the importance of continuing to adopt responsible behaviors after the intervention. I now feel ready to make an informed decision. Bosco, 22

  1. Trust in Youth-Friendly Services

“I appreciate that the consultations are confidential and that the providers welcome us without judgment. Thanks to FWA’s activities, I know where to go when I have a concern about my sexual or mental health. This is extremely reassuring.” Pamella, 20
