Despite an extraordinarily challenging operating environment, St. Boniface Hospital remains a lifeline for the more than two million people who depend on it across southern Haiti. Our teams have kept the doors open and critical care flowing, safely delivering babies, caring for newborns in our NICU, and providing emergency services to patients with nowhere else to turn. Every surgery performed, every prenatal visit completed, and every child treated for malnutrition reflects the power of your sustained support.
The security crisis and the disruption of global health funding have already forced difficult decisions, stretching resources, finding efficiencies, and relying on the extraordinary dedication of our staff. Now we face an additional challenge: the end of Temporary Protected Status for hundreds of thousands of Haitians in the United States. The potential mass return of individuals and families to a country already overwhelmed by insecurity and displacement will place enormous additional strain on Haiti's health system. As one of the primary healthcare facilities in southern Haiti, SBH will inevitably absorb that pressure, in higher patient volumes, greater demand for emergency services, and deepening community need. Health Equity International is actively researching how to best prepare for this situation.
Through it all, our dedicated staff continues to provide critical care amid growing uncertainty. Our doors remain open, our communities remain supported, and our commitment to Haiti remains unwavering, no matter what comes next.
