Providing Health Access and Critical Care at SBH

Project Report | Oct 23, 2026
Steady Care in Uncertain Times

By Ikpindi Djeri | Chief Program Officer

The growing pressures on Haiti’s health system have not eased during these past few months, but neither has our commitment. St. Boniface Hospital has continued to serve as a constant presence for the more than two million people of southern Haiti, providing care that, for many families, is available nowhere else.

The past year shows what that commitment looks like in practice. Our teams safely delivered more than 3,000 babies, performed over 3,500 surgeries, and cared for more than 1,000 critically ill newborns in our neonatal intensive care unit, well above what we anticipated when this project began. Our community health workers carried that same care beyond the hospital, visiting families at home and screening thousands of children for malnutrition before it became life-threatening. These results belong to a staff who keep showing up, often under very difficult circumstances, because they know their patients are counting on them.

Looking ahead, we remain clear-eyed about the challenges. Insecurity, reduced international funding, and the return of Haitians who have lost Temporary Protected Status in the United States will continue to test our capacity. Health Equity International is preparing for that reality so SBH can keep meeting rising need without compromising the quality of care. Your support gives us the stability to plan ahead rather than simply react.

Thank you for continuing to stand with SBH and the people of southern Haiti. Your generosity keeps our doors open, our teams in place, and hope within reach for the families we serve.
