We are building a permanent and much-needed school so as to provide a safe, dry and nurturing learning environment for 120 orphaned and vulnerable children in rural Cameroon.
We are working to provide a free education to all children who have been identified as Orphaned or Vulnerable (OVC) in the local community. They are identified as staying in vulnerable situations as they have lost one or both parents and SEREP places them with carers, provides financial support for clothes, a food and sundry allowance and a place in The Self Reliance Training Centre. There are no similar training centres/schools that provide for the OVC within Kumbo and the surrounding area.
SEREP is keen to start using the Training Centre as quickly as possible. With the realisation of the first phase of construction we would have four classrooms ready for use for the academic year 2010/2011. For this we require just US$5,905.
The Training Centre will be able to enrol 120 students compared to the current 82. The new premises will also provide for the wider community - the centre will provide further education opportunities and act as a community meeting point.
