Providing Access to Quality Primary Education

The past few months have brought an important change for students and teachers at CCF’s Prek Toil community. In June, the school officially moved into its new building and was renamed The Shiu School. The school celebrated the opening with students, staff, and members of CCF’s international board from the US, UK, Australia, and Hong Kong.

The new school provides five classrooms, a computer lab, a library, a teachers’ room, meeting spaces, a conference room, and an open area for student assemblies. Classrooms now have projectors and internet access, giving teachers more ways to make lessons interactive and helping students learn through pictures, videos, and activities.

For Heng Sok Leap, 10, a Grade 4 student, having a new school is another step in a much longer journey. Before joining CCF in 2022, Sok Leap often accompanied her mother while she collected recyclable materials at night, and she was unable to attend school regularly. With CCF's support, she returned to school and has continued her education. Today, Sok Leap attends school regularly and enjoys learning and playing with her friends. She is especially excited about the new library, computer lab, and larger playground. She now dreams of becoming a doctor so she can help people who may not have enough money to afford medical care. For students like Sok Leap, the new school is not a new building. It gives them more space to learn, access to new resources, and an environment where they can feel comfortable, curious, and ready to participate.

For English teacher Samnang Leab, who has been teaching at CCF for 15 years, the move has been a memorable moment. He said, “The first day we moved into the new school is something I will never forget. The students were so excited to see their new classrooms, and honestly, the teachers were just as excited. It felt like a fresh start for all of us.” Samnang has already seen a difference in his classroom. He added, “Having a projector in every classroom has made a huge difference. I can use pictures, videos, and interactive activities to explain my lessons. Students understand more because they can see what they are learning. They ask more questions, join more activities, and enjoy being in the classroom.”
