The project aims to provide 40 children at the Rehabilitation Institute for the Blind Buea with white canes to improve the quality of their daily lives. These children go about their daily lives without White canes which posing serious risks of injuries and falls especially in the raining season.
For visually impaired children, the white cane serves as their eyes. Unfortunately, for the over 39 blind trainees of the Rehabilitation Institute for the Blind in Buea Cameroon, the white cane is something most of them have never used. The center is unable to provide these canes to the children as it struggles to meet their other basic needs and feeding. The children resort to the use of sticks which posing risks of falls and injuries especially in the rainy season.
The project will purchase high quality white canes and distribute to each of the children in the center. With the white canes, mobility and general quality of life of the blind trainees will be greatly enhanced. The white canes are a basic necessity for the visually impaired.
Better quality of life and little to no falls will occur in the center. The children will have a better chance at integrating into the mainstream of the society and live a normal life. They will be able to undertake most of the activities which they can't at the moment such as playing in the center's playground.
