Restore eyesight to 2000 villagers in India

The project till date has been able to benefit 179 people (79 males and 100 females) belonging to the poorest and marginalised section of the community who reside in the remote rural areas and were facing hardships in life with no one to their aid.

Following activities were carried out:

1) Creating awareness about Cataract Surgery: The beneficiaries in the remote areas were ignorant of Cararact and were informed about the eye disease. They were encouraged to attend the Eye Screening camp being organised under the project were they were informed about cataract and diagnosed. A total of 563 people were diagnosed suffering from Cataract in 10 camps being organised at various remote villages.

2) Conducting Cataract Surgeries: The diagnosed patients were referred to the base hospital for surgery where they were operated. A total of 179 people were benefitted under the project.They were brought to the base hospital by van, admitted in the hospital, operated of cataract and were released the next day after providing post operative medicines, spectacles and doctor´s suggestions for do´s and don´ts.

Case Study: Tegal Pandit, resides in the remote village of Raikinari, Block: Jarmundi together with his family. There are 14 members in his family (9 males and 5 females). He was suffering from cataract in his left eye since last 2 years. He is a potter by profession and was unable to work due to cataract. He even faced difficulty in carrying out his daily activities. He was leading a troublesome life because of poor vision and poor financial condition with no one to his aid.

Later, he was diagnosed in the screening camp being organised in his village and referred to the base hospital for operation. He was successfully operated and provided with needed medication.

He is back to his work now, supporting his family and is very thankful to the kind support rendered to him from supporters like you.

He is Santosh Sah from village Chorkatta, district Dumka, Jharkhand, India. He has a son, who is 17 years old, studying in government school in class Xth. They belong to Below Poverty Line and lives in a Mud house. For livelihood, Santosh used to collect dry-woods and sell it in the market.

Few months back, Santosh lost his vision and was unable to see and collect woods which worsen their economic condition.  Due to poor family condition, he was unable to visit any hospital and was forced to live a miserable life.

Recently NBJK had organised an Eye screening camp in his area, where he was identified with cataract. It was found that, he had developed cataract in both of his eyes and was not able to see even an object placed at one meter. He has matured cataract and could have lost his vision permanently if would not have intervened at correct time.

He was brought to NBJK-run Eye Hospital and his vision was restored by cataract surgery in one of his eye. He was provided with necessary medicines and spectacles free of cost.

Now, he is back to his work again, earning his livelihood and sustaining his family. He is very happy that he can now see properly. He still have cataract in one eye and he is called in hospital again after 2 months for surgery.
