On March 11, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a global pandemic, reaching more than 118 countries and affecting hundreds of thousands of people. Information shows that older adults are at higher risk of getting very sick from Coronavirus (COVID-19). In response, LULAC will support the elderly communities, providing a supply of gift cards to elders that need the aid in these difficult times.
Elderly communities across the country are the most vulnerable to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Their health is at stake and their daily lives are interrupted, having to stay at home as much as possible. Extra costs to cover medication, food and water are a burden on these already hard hit communities, especially low-income individuals, people of color and the homeless who do not have the resources that many of us fortunately do.
LULAC will provide gift cards to elderly communities that desperately need economic support. With this opportunity, LULAC removes the resistance to buy essential needs off of the elderly community. The elderly will have enough household items and groceries to be prepared to stay at home for a long period of time to protect themselves from the potentially deadly Coronavirus. Your support of $10 will ensure that an elderly person has 1 meal, supporting $50 will ensure they have a meal for a week.
The project will improve the economic condition of the elderly, which will provide for the individuals' health and well-being.
