This project will improve the quality of education for 2,000 children in sub Saharan Africa, providing them with their very own Tutudesk - a portable school desk.
Can you imagine sitting in a classroom without a school desk? What would you write on? Perhaps, you would balance your book on your legs, the floor or friend's back. Is your handwriting legible? The lack of a school desk, a writing surface, effects the development of writing, part of basic literacy, and the foundation for a quality education.
A Tutudesk is a low cost, immediate solution. It's a portable school desk. Children simply place it on their lap and at the end of the day they can pick it up by the handle and carry it home to do their homework. It is their own desk, possible the first new anything they have ever owned. This also leads to increased motivation and a sense of pride.
As soon as a child receives a desk their handwriting improves, both in terms of legibility and speed. Over time this leads to improvement in their literacy and overall academic performance.
