There are very few provisions in Kenya for children with special needs. New Life Home Trust strives to set a high standard of care for the children at our New Life Amani Cottage home in Kisumu. Over the past few years as some of the 15 children in our care, age 6 months to 13 years, have become teenagers, our needs have grow with their development. In particular, we are in need of a new 32-passenger bus to transport the children to school, medical facilities, physical therapy, and activities.
At our New Life Kisumu Home, we have an age diverse group of children with both physical and mental special needs. Our current mode of transport consists of two, very old 14-seater vans. Space is cramped and the children's wheelchairs are unwieldy and awkward to maneuver inside the van. Particularly as the children in our care continue to grow, the space we have continues to shrink. Due to the size restriction of our vans, we cannot move our children about in a dignified way.
With your help, we will purchase a multi-purpose 32-seater bus that accommodates wheelchairs safely and with ease. The bus will include a custom-fitted hoist and wide aisles. With a reliable source of transportation, our staff intend is to arrange exciting and stimulating regular activities for our children with disabilities. Additionally, the new bus will enable us to make the necessary trips for medical, rehabilitation, and physical therapy visits as well as school transportation.
Purchasing a new bus both meets our current need and means that we will have a vehicle for the future growth and development of the children at the New Life Amani Cottage. With your support, we can continue to help these incredible children thrive through accessible transportation to school, quality care, medical services, and play.
