Project Report | Jul 23, 2026
Thank you for helping VAAFD reduce the textbook gap at CAMHS 2025/2026.

By Abigail S. Teah | Media and Communication Officer

The 2025/2026 academy year at CAMHS has officially ended. As we close this chapter, the entire CAMHS family wants to say a heartfelt thank you to our GlobalGiving donors.
In the heart of Red Light, one of Monrovia’s busiest and most underserved communities, Carolyn A. Miller High School (CAMHS) serves over 300 students from low-income families. For years, our biggest barrier to learning was simple not enough textbooks.
Red Light is a tough community, but CAMHS continues to be a place of hope and learning.
Reduced cost burden on parents so more children could stay in school. Attendance increased.
Previously we reported on two topic
1. Help Bridge the Textbook Gap at CAMHS in Liberia
2. Making a Difference at CAMHS in Red Light
Because of your support, we saw real progress in our classrooms and in our community.
Teachers are now reporting that students are more engaged, homework completion has increased, and test scores are improving because children can now read and study from a book.
The CAMHS family will soon begin a new school year. Our hope for next year is to improve our library and to see each child with a textbook.
We still have more work to do. Many students in Grades 7-12 still do not have textbooks, and we need more books to reach a 1:1 ratio. We also learned that protecting books with covers helps them last longer
Our goals for 2026/2027:
1. Purchase 400 more textbooks to reach 1 book per child in core subjects
2. Expand and furnish our school library with reference books
3.Launch a “Textbook Care Campaign” to teach students to protect their books
To every donor, volunteer, and supporter: You are changing lives at CAMHS.Thank you for believing in the children of Liberia. We look forward to sharing photos and stories from the new academy year with you soon.
