Provide Textbooks for Children in Liberia

Thanks to our donors, supporters, friends and GlobalGiving for the hard work and the continuous support over the years. With the help of your donations, our students and staff have access to modern textbooks that are making great impacts in our school for both learning and teaching. With the presence of these textbooks in the school, many students are building interest in both reading and research. These have led to improved reading skills and ease in the process of students doing assignments.

Patience is one of the students that have built so much interest in reading and learning new words on a daily basis. When I had a conversation with her, she said that she sees the textbooks as a dream come true.It has been her dream to become a public speaker but there was a challenge due to her not having access to books and other reading materials to help her have mastery in reading and speaking. This limited her and to some extent demotivated her but with these books the narrative has changed. She now has the confidence that her dream of becoming a public speaker can come to reality. She is so happy because it has built her self-confidence and taught her many new things about Public speaking. She said the textbooks have given her the best opportunities for learning and made it very easy to study and understand her lessons.

The presence of these modern textbooks has also been a plus for our teachers. It aids them when they are making their lesson plans and notes in a standardized way. With the help of the textbooks, our students are up to date with their research and are presented with the most updated information. This project continues to provide the needed curriculum textbooks for the students of Carolyn A Miller School in Paynesville, Liberia. The school remains committed to providing free and quality education to the thousands of less fortunate kids in Paynesville, Liberia from kindergarten to 12th grade, and the school is currently delivering free education to over 600 of the poorest children in Liberia who do not have any means of acquiring textbooks and other educational supplies.

This project got started on the refugee camp in 2003 and helped to rebuild the lives of the less fortunate and unaccompanied refugee kids, many of whom were orphans. This is a journey that we started in 2003, and we continue to move on, gradually developing the educational infrastructure that was damaged during the 14 years of civil war in Liberia.

The latest development, we have acquired additional 50 pieces of textbooks from our West Africa sister country Ghana for our students. The use of these textbooks has been very helpful to our students for the past two years. Now students have had good and improved results in the WASSCE examination.
