Provide Tents for Displaced Families in DRC

1. Context and Rationale

In eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, ongoing armed conflicts in North and South Kivu continue to force thousands of families from their homes. Today, more than 21,000 people are living in extremely precarious conditions, without adequate shelter, exposed to harsh weather, disease, and insecurity. Women, children, and the elderly are the most affected.

In response to this humanitarian emergency, our organization has launched a project to provide emergency shelter tents, addressing a fundamental need: protection and dignity.

2. Project Objective

The main objective is to distribute 3,000 emergency shelter tents to displaced families living in camps across North and South Kivu. Each tent can accommodate up to 7 people, providing safe shelter for approximately 21,000 beneficiaries.

3. Project Activities

• Identification of the most vulnerable beneficiaries in collaboration with community leaders
• Procurement and transportation of durable, weather-resistant tents
• Fair and transparent distribution within displacement camps
• Post-distribution monitoring to assess impact and identify additional needs

In parallel, a vocational training component is being prepared. It aims to empower young girls by equipping them with income-generating skills. This program is currently in the phase of identifying trainers and beneficiaries, with implementation scheduled for November 2025.

They have fled armed violence, leaving behind their homes, belongings, and often family members. To respond to this urgent crisis, our organization is implementing a project aimed at providing 3,000 emergency shelter tents to the most vulnerable families: single women, unaccompanied children, elderly people, and households exposed to the elements.

Humanitarian Problem

The massive displacements caused by ongoing conflict have led to overcrowded camps where families often sleep on the bare ground, without any protection from rain, cold, or illness.
