Thank you very much for your generous support of the IDP families in Dargai. These families are still in need of assistance as you will read in our update.
Thank you again for you support and please do give us your feedback on the update.
Update:
Approximately over 3 million people have left their homes in Swat, Dir and Buner districts of NWFP, Pakistan due to the recent military operation against militants. Majority of these internally displaced persons live with host communities where schools, parks, community centres and guest rooms of local people have been vacated to accommodate these people.
In response to this situation, Dost Welfare Foundation has established an emergency response/relief camp through its Dar-ul-Falah Centre Dargai on May 10, 2009 in the Gari Usman Khel Union Council of Dargai to provide emergency medical and psycho-social support to IDPs arriving from Swat.
Since May 10, 2009 the emergency response camp achieved the following outputs: * 4,128 individuals were provided basic medical care * 13,065 individuals were reached with social support i.e. advice, temporary rest, refreshments. * Over 800 IDP families living with host communities in Dargai have approached the camp and registered themselves for food support programme.
On average 100-120 families arrive in the camp on daily basis. These families are receiving medical aid, refreshments, guidance about the places where they can go, basic household items (only limited number of families), and temporary shelter.
Basic household and food items, medical care and social support are the utmost demands receiving from the IDPs living with host communities in the four Union Councils of Dargai namely Usman Khel, Hero Shah, Khurh Rai and Meher Di. In response to these situations, DOST urgently needs support in terms of basic household items and food supplies (e.g. wheat flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, and pulses) for distribution among these IDPs. The basic household items include jugs, glasses, water coolers, tea pots, tea cups, water pots, floor mats, cooking pots, table spoons, cooking stoves and hygiene items (toothbrushes, soaps, detergents, etc).
