Restoring Dignity: 3,820 Lives Transformed Through

By Maurice Lamony | Associate Director of Communications

Dear Supporters,

Thanks to your generosity, Bulamu Healthcare continues to transform lives across rural Uganda through our free Surgery Intensive Camps. These camps bring critical surgical care to communities where healthcare access is limited, helping people who have suffered for years with treatable conditions.

One such person is Owori Richard, a 49-year-old father of seven from Mayuge District in Eastern Uganda. For eight years, Richard lived with a severe hydrocele that grew to an enormous size, dramatically limiting his ability to work, walk, or even wear normal clothing. Once active in agriculture and construction and beloved as a community events host, Richard found himself increasingly isolated.

"The condition became so severe that I struggled to walk, work, or even wear normal trousers," Richard shared. "I often had to resort to wearing loose-fitting clothing just to manage daily activities. On top of failing to earn and provide for my family, the condition affected every aspect of my life. I faced a lot of stigma and isolation."

When a friend told Richard about Bulamu's free surgery program, it offered his first real hope in years. After a successful procedure at one of our camps, Richard's life has been transformed. "I cannot say enough how this has restored my life and dignity. Thank you very much," he says.

Richard's story is just one of 3,820. So far in 2025, our Surgery Intensive Camps and partner facilities have provided free surgical care to 3,820 patients with conditions including hernias, goiters, lipomas, and hydroceles. Each surgery represents not just physical healing, but restored dignity, renewed ability to work, and reconnection with family and community.

Your support makes these life-changing surgeries possible. Thank you for helping us bring healing and hope to rural Uganda.
