This project delivers free, life-changing surgeries to patients in rural Uganda who have waited years-even decades-for care they cannot afford. Through our mobile surgical teams and partnerships with the Association of Surgeons of Uganda, we bring quality surgical care directly to underserved communities. Each surgical session treats over 250 patients, addressing conditions that cause chronic pain, disability, and social isolation. Your support helps restore health, dignity and productive lives.
In East Africa, millions lack access to essential surgical care due to prohibitive costs ($100-$1,000) and limited healthcare infrastructure. Patients in rural Uganda often wait 4+ years for surgeries that would take days to access in developed countries. This prolonged suffering leads to disability, unemployment, social stigma, and deepening poverty. Without intervention, treatable conditions become life-threatening, and families suffer when breadwinners cannot work.
Our mobile surgical program brings care directly to rural communities by deploying 50-person surgical teams for week-long sessions at existing health facilities. Working with the Association of Surgeons of Uganda since 2021, we perform approximately 2,500 free surgeries annually-the largest collaboration of its kind in East Africa. We also connect patients needing specialized care with partner hospitals. At just $225 per surgery, we provide immediate, cost-effective relief.
Each surgery transforms not just one life but an entire family's future. When breadwinners return to work, children return to school, and community members regain independence, the economic and social benefits multiply. Our program also strengthens local healthcare systems by providing equipment, supplies, and training. By creating a sustainable model for surgical outreach that can be replicated across East Africa, we're building capacity to address millions of needed surgeries.
