This year, CRDT has benefited from the support of Swiss Contact as part of the Skills Development Program (SDP). The program has aided in our goals to provide Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and life skills to disadvantaged youths from Rural Cambodia.
Twenty students have so far graduated from Le Tonlé this year from Kratie and Stung Treng provinces, including nine women and one individual from the Bunong indigenous community. These students were able to learn a variety of skills, such as Basic English, Administration, Computer Literacy, Hygiene, Food Preparation, Front office, and CV Development. They were furthermore able to practice what they have learned at the Le Tonlé restaurant and guesthouse, a unique feature of our vocational enterprise.

During 2016 – 2017, CRDT has worked with the Swisscontact as a service provider in order to provide a 3 month full time certificate training to unemployed youth and in-house training to low skill hospitality workers in Kratie and Stung Treng. Amongst all 20 students in the 3 month full time certificate training, Sreyvet was selected to be Le Tonle’s housekeeper after completing the training because of her outstanding performance and potential.
Sreyvet was born in a farmer family in Smabo District, Kratie Province. She finished her high school diploma in 2016 but had no mean to continue higher education because the family is poor. After enrolling with Le Tonle training, Srey Vet gained knowledge and skill in the two divisions of labour including food and beverage service and housekeeping. Being with Tonle, Sreyvet’s personal and professional have been develop which make her become more confidence and get an employment opportunity with Le Tonle. With the salary she gains from employment, Sreyvet allocates some to send back home to help family and her sibling for further education and some for her own to study extra English in Kratie Town. In the future Sreyvet wants to be a manager for a guesthouse.
Since 2017, Le Tonle has provided skill development and employment opportunities to approximately two hundred vulnerable youth from Stung Treng and Kratie province in which 50% of them are female. Currently Le Tonle is working again with Swisscontact to provide a three month full time certificate to unemployed youth targeting 120 people between 2018 – 2019.
Your donations will help us to continue the Le Tonlé training centre and directly impact youths in rural Cambodia by offering them real, employable skills and the chance for income generation. Your contributions will have a significant positive impact on the lives of these individuals and their communities!
