The project will provide free internet access using satellite connection to 2 remote villages on the island of Negros in the Philippines for a period of 5 years to more than 100 families.
There is currently no availability of a reliable and stable internet access in the 2 villages where AIDFI is actively assisting farmers through its Essential Oil program providing year-round livelihood. Broadband fiber connection has not reached this areas as they are far-flung and remote. Despite availability of cellular data connection which is expensive, mostly slow, and only covers the center of the village closer to the main road. The upper part of the village have to go down to access it.
The advent of satellite internet access has bridged the gap for these places. Our essential oil factories are located high up in the mountain near the farms where the product is produced. As it is conveniently located in the center for the farmers, they can easily access it and connect to the internet without the need to go down to the main road. It is especially vital to the students for their studies, the factories have areas where they can learn with internet access broaden their knowledge.
The project will provide a venue where students and farmers through free internet access which will broaden their knowledge and through that support their education as well as be able to connect and share to the outside world. It is expected that farmer families and the whole community located in these far-flung upland areas will further enhance and cultivate their lives for the better. For AIDFI, it would mean being able to expand to more farmer families to provide year-round livelihood.
