Infants are the most vulnerable population in the world. In Kenya, infant abandonment still occurs at a staggering pace. Often the need outweighs the capacity that local homes and shelters are able to provide. In response to this need, New Life Home Trust Nyeri is seeking to improve the sense of home, safety, and high quality medical care we are able to offer infants in need within our region. With your help we'll be able to improve the quality of care that these rescued infants receive.
The staff at New Life Nyeri work tirelessly to raise funds and awareness about the needs of abandoned infants in their region. Despite their valiant efforts, there is still a gap in funding between what the community can financially sustain and the ongoing needs related to infant care. The Nyeri Home is often inundated with people willing to volunteer and their limited budget meets immediate needs. This project focuses on quality improvements that will improve overall well-being for infants.
This project will come alongside the efforts of the Nyeri staff to better serve rescued infants by improving the facility in which they will live until biological family members can be found or the child is placed with an adoptive family. With your help, we can meet the gap between surviving on a limited budget and preparing for future need by updating the existing equipment. Additionally, the hygienic mats are preventative care that help decrease the overall budget and keep our babies healthy.
Often the long-term benefit of our work is that it saves a child's life. Because the conditions of abandonment can be extreme and life-threatening, rescuing infants in need is the difference between life and death. This project enables us to continue to provide high quality care to a child who has already faced death and abandonment and give him or her a new chance at life by having the equipment - bedding, hygiene protections, and medical organization - needed to provide the best aftercare.
