Parents hardly go for ANC or take their children to hospitals due to financial difficulties and this fuels malnutrition and late detection of life threatening conditions. The current infant mortality rate for Ghana in 2022 is 31.768 deaths per 1000 live births. With a health insurance card, a child or pregnant woman can access free basic healthcare services across Ghana. This encourages frequent visitation to health centers which will reduce the rate of morbidity and mortality among children.
According to UNICEF Ghana, about 70 babies lose their lives everyday. One child in every five in Ghana experiences stunted growth during the first thousand days of life caused by the increased rate of malnutrition and high rate of morbidity among children below 5 living in the rural parts of Northern Ghana due to late detection of chronic diseases. This is due to the infrequent visitation to the health centers; resulting from financial problems and lack of knowledge about conditions.
Providing a health insurance card that grants children free access to basic healthcare for over a period of ten years; coupled with health and nutrition education to families will keep them informed first about healthy practices and healthy living through our healtg education. Also whenever their children feel unwell, they can visit the hospital using the health insurance card without having to worry about cost of treatment and medication.
1. Reduction in child morbidity and mortality among children in Northern Ghana by 30% by end of 2025. 2. Early detection of life threatening conditions. 3. An informed parent on danger signs and symptoms of diseases. 4. Increase the frequency of visitation the hospital to seek basic healthcare by 50% by the end of 2025.
