Provide 100 disadvantaged Ghanaian youth-school dropouts, young mothers, and orphans-with 12 months of competency-based vocational training (in hairdressing, baking, masonry, electrical, dressmaking), followed by 3 months Workplace Experience Learning , 2 months of business management coaching, and 1 month of mentorship with start-up kits. This holistic program equips trainees to secure jobs or launch microenterprises, reducing unemployment, poverty, and social vulnerability.
Unemployment among the youth is very alarming in Ghana. Many of them in Sekyere East District could not further their education to Senior High School due to financial problems. There is poverty and increase in crime among the young men. The females among them are the most vulnerable and are exposed to teenage pregnancy. According to a report produced by JoyNews, 2,865 girls between 10 and 14 got pregnant in 2020; while 107,023 between15 and 9 became pregnant making 110,000 pregnancies in 2022
The project will give the youth practical skills and competencies to start and manage their own business as an attempt to address unemployment problem. The youth will be trained in an identified skilled area of their choices. The project will use competency-based training curriculum designed approach to ensure the training meet standards.
