This project will drill boreholes for rural communities in Anambra State, in order to provide them with clean water and protect the lives of the children therein. Clean water is important for public health, whether it's for drinking or domestic use. Many residents in Anambra treks to hilly streams to fetch water. Over 60 million people in Nigeria still lack access to clean water, leading to transmission of waterborne diseases like diarrhea, killing over 700,000 children under 5 years annually.
According to UNICEF, over 60 million people in Nigeria still lack access to clean water. Poor access to clean water and sanitation in Nigeria remains a major contributing factor to high morbidity and mortality rates among children under 5 years. Drinking contaminated water and poor sanitary conditions results in increased vulnerability to waterborne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, polio and diarrhea, leading to deaths of over 700,000 children under 5 years annually.
With the funds that would be raised through this project, we will drill a borehole each for the selected communities, buy a plastic water storage tank and a generator for them, in order to make sure that the people in those communities have access to steady clean water supply.
The people of these communities will have enough water supply for all their activities at their disposal, without having to be trekking to a hilly stream in order to fetch water. With children particularly at risk from water-related diseases, access to clean water can result in better health and therefore better school attendance.
