This project will provide cataract surgeries for 300 patients in Ghana who are suffering from preventable blindness and severe vision impairment. Many low-income individuals, especially the elderly in rural communities, are unable to afford eye surgery and continue living with avoidable blindness that affects their independence and quality of life. This project will help restore sight and improve daily living for vulnerable patients through access to life-changing cataract treatment.
Cataracts are one of the leading causes of blindness in Ghana, particularly among older adults. Many patients remain untreated because they cannot afford surgery or access specialized eye care services. Vision loss limits mobility, reduces economic productivity, increases dependency, and negatively affects overall wellbeing.
This project will provide free cataract screening, surgery, medication, and post-operative care for 300 vulnerable patients. It will partner with eye specialists and healthcare facilities to ensure patients receive safe and effective treatment. Community outreach activities will also help identify individuals in need of urgent eye care services.
The project will restore sight, improve independence, and enhance quality of life for patients living with cataracts. Beneficiaries will be able to return to daily activities, work, and community life with improved vision. Over time, this project will help reduce preventable blindness and strengthen access to eye care services in Ghana.
