COVID-19 has left over 30,000 persons, mainly women unemployed in Saint Lucia, 15,000 applied for temporary unemployment assistance, those who worked in the hospitality sector with limited to no savings cannot afford food, rent, utilities, etc, for those who were unemployed previously and depended on those who were employed are now without family or voluntary support. In additional many families have no electricity, water, internet or digital devices to support e-learning for their children.
By providing food to families worst affected by the devastating effects of COVID-19, for example, those most affected by the closure of resorts, small businesses, vendors, artisans, COVID-19 made earning livelihoods difficult and in some cases impossible. Women are disproportionately affected and contact us daily for food, this project will provide basic food items for those most in need, specifically women with children, elderly, special needs family members, etc.
By providing basic food and other supplies to women and homes, we hope to minimize the instances of domestic violence, stem the tide of returning to domestic violence situations, or situation where children were at risk of sexual or physical abuse in exchange for food and shelter. This program will assist marginalized and affected households to provide meals for their families.
