The COVID-19 crisis highlighted inequalities in the labor market that disproportionately affected women from marginalized backgrounds. With just a little contribution you could help us deliver essential goods and guarantee a meal to the women and children we are supporting. Since the pandemic started, we have provided 3500 bags of food, but we need your help to keep ensuring this service as the pandemic is not over and the island has been extremely suffering the absence of tourism
COVID-19 has left over 30,000 persons, mainly women unemployed in Saint Lucia. Those who worked in the hospitality sector (47.8% of total employment) have limited to no savings and cannot afford food, rent, utilities, and essentials. In addition, many families have no electricity, water, internet, or digital devices to support e-learning for their children. No monetary autonomy results in women being forced to rely on the abusive partner giving them no chances to escape their situation.
Women are disproportionately affected and contact us daily for food. This project will provide basic food items for those most in need, specifically: Women with children, the elderly, special needs family members, etc. We are already trying our best to support, but we cannot afford the expense to all of our clients. With your support, you will ensure more people in need will be provided essential goods to survive.
By providing basic food and other supplies to women and their families, we hope to: Minimize the instances of domestic violence Stem the tide of returning to domestic violence harassers or situations where children were at risk of sexual or physical abuse in exchange for food and shelter.
