Malaria is one of the top causes of illness and death in Douala, Cameroon. Many families sleep without bed nets, putting children and pregnant women at higher risk. This project will distribute 10,000 insecticide-treated nets to households in high-risk areas. By reducing mosquito contact during sleep, these nets will help lower infections and save lives in low-income communities.
Malaria remains widespread in Douala, with many cases linked to mosquito bites during nighttime. Most low-income households lack treated nets or cannot replace worn-out ones. Children under five and pregnant women are most vulnerable. Without proper protection, families continue to face repeated infections, medical costs, and, in some cases, death.
This project will provide 10,000 insecticide-treated nets to households in malaria-prone neighborhoods in Douala. Each net lasts for years and offers reliable protection during sleep. The distribution will be combined with education on proper use and care. By focusing on areas with the highest infection rates, the project will reduce mosquito contact and help prevent illness.
Treated bed nets have been proven to lower malaria infections over time. By covering 10,000 households, this project can reduce the disease burden in Douala's poorest areas. Fewer infections mean lower health costs, better school attendance, and fewer deaths. Widespread net use can help push back malaria rates across the city for years to come.
